Urgent: Act Now to Protect Medicaid in Pennsylvania
Dear PADSA Members,
The U.S. House of Representatives is preparing to vote on a budget resolution that threatens to cut $880 billion from Medicaid, endangering the care of millions of Pennsylvanians. This decision could have devastating consequences for the adult day industry, long-term care services, and the communities we serve.
Why Medicaid is Essential for Pennsylvania:
- Supporting Parents & Families: Medicaid pays for 35% of all births in Pennsylvania, ensuring access to vital prenatal, maternity, and postpartum care.
- Caring for Children: Over 1.25 million children rely on Medicaid, including those with special healthcare needs and those in foster care.
- Paying for Long-Term Care: Medicaid funds essential home- and community-based services that allow seniors and individuals with disabilities to remain in their homes. It also covers nearly two-thirds of all nursing home care in Pennsylvania.
- Promoting Mental Health: Medicaid is the largest payer for mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.
- Strengthening Local Economies: Medicaid supports hospitals, healthcare providers, and jobs that are vital to our communities.
What This Means for Adult Day Services:
These cuts could mean fewer resources for adult day centers, reduced reimbursement rates, and limitations on services for our most vulnerable participants. Now is the time to take action.
